Information Commissioner’s Office to speak at ABTA’s data management and protection event

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has confirmed that it will speak at ABTA’s Data Protection and Management in Travel Conference taking place on 16 October. Rose Nelson and Rick Syers, Senior Policy Officers from the ICO will take part in a surgery session, answering questions around the key GDPR issues for travel. Common issues include special category data, managing data with suppliers and markets outside of the EEA.

ABTA’s Simon Bunce will be speaking and Travlaw’s Farina Azam will moderate the event. There will be contributions from a number of industry speakers; TUI, Cosmos, Abercrombie and Kent, Carnival, Cruise and Maritime Voyages, iglu.com, Advantage Travel Partnership and Carlson Wagonlit Travel. ABTA Members will share information about their own journeys towards GDPR compliance.

Whilst the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) deadline has passed, the reality is that compliance is an ongoing process that evolves over time. Travel businesses have had to change the way they handle data in their sales, bookings, marketing and supplier contract processes as a result of GDPR. The conference will look at data protection across different departments including customer complaints, human resources, marketing and finance. It will also cover the latest cyber security threats, and how to manage potential security breaches.

ABTA’s Data Protection and Management in Travel Post-GDPR Conference is being held on 16 October 2018 at De Vere West One in London. A few places remain. Download an agenda and register your place online.
