There is a lot in the news right now about jet fuel prices, the availability of jet fuel and what this may mean for holidays, following the conflict in the Middle East.

Holidays are going ahead

We don’t want people to worry about their upcoming holiday – travel is still going ahead, with holidaymakers getting away as normal. We’re not aware of UK flights being cancelled due to the availability of jet fuel.

We are in close contact with airline bodies who have said UK airlines are currently not seeing disruption to jet fuel supply, because the UK sources fuel from a diverse range of places.

Some European airlines have been reducing flights to some destinations to save money on fuel, but where they have multiple flights going to the same place on the same day. This is a small proportion of flights when you consider the number that depart each day.

UK airlines are operating normally and fuel supplies remain stable.  No flights are being cancelled due to fuel shortages and reports to this effect are incorrect.

UK regulations protect your holidays

While holidays are going ahead as planned, you may find it reassuring to know that, in the unlikely event a flight is cancelled – for whatever reason – there are lots of protections in place for UK travellers. This means you shouldn’t lose out on the money you paid for your flight, and if it’s a package holiday, that extends to the full cost of the package. There is more about your rights here.

Holidays are available across a range of price points

There are still lots of holidays available to book this year, including for the summer, to suit a range of budgets. ABTA travel agents and tour operators can find the best holiday to suit your needs and price range. More about booking with a travel agent here.

And don’t forget, if you book with an ABTA member, you have the added peace of mind that we’re here to support members and customers.

Don’t forget travel insurance

Wherever you are travelling and whatever the circumstances, we always recommend taking out travel insurance. Policies vary, so you should check yours carefully to make sure you know what is covered. See our advice on what to consider when choosing a travel insurance policy
