Managing plastics: guidance for travel companies

ABTA’s guidance ‘Managing plastics: guidance for travel companies’ is designed to support those in the travel industry monitor, develop and plan their approach to plastic and waste management. Using the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle framework, the guidance explains how any strategy needs to look at ways to reduce plastic in the first place, move from single-use to reusable items, encourage recycling or seek credible alternatives. It helps businesses develop a long-term strategy, and avoid any unintended consequences by looking at broader considerations such as health and safety, to identify and address.

The guidance outlines a five-step process based on ABTA’s sustainability programme, ‘Better Places’, and highlights examples of what businesses within the industry have done to tackle the use of plastics.
