An Essential Guide to Restarting Travel

Author: Matt Gatenby, Senior Partner, Travlaw

Will we ever see the beginning of the end of the terrible impact of Covid-19 on the travel & leisure industry in particular? I think we will – in fact, I think we are already at that point. It just doesn’t always seem that obvious amongst the pain and continued negative outlook that persists pretty much across the board.

All signs do, however, point in the direction that we are nearly there! After everything we have collectively been through, any travel business needs to make sure that it hits the ground running in terms of its ability to not only start trading again, but doing so in a progressive and positive way that complies with a legal landscape which will not look the same as it did a few years ago.

Old concepts such as Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (“FCDO”) advice are not quite as they once were, and entirely new issues have arisen to challenge us, such as the Traffic Lights system, the Government’s Covid-19 Charter and more attention from the Competition and Markets Authority than we have ever had. Some elements of what travel businesses do are ever present, so refreshers on how you should be handling data and what to expect in terms of potential customer complaints and claims will also be covered as part of the agenda.

Needless to say, this event will tackle all those issues, and more, in a comprehensive but down-to-earth way so that pretty much all the key issues of getting back to what the travel industry does best will be covered off. Experienced speakers from both ABTA and Travlaw will be joined by Health & Safety experts to make sure that as many bases as possible are covered. With a mix of information sessions and panels there will be opportunity to both absorb and learn as well as ask the questions that you want answers to.

So, whether you are an experienced travel campaigner, or new to the industry this event has something for everyone. See you there!

ABTA’s Essential Guide To Restarting Travel is taking place virtually on 8 September, to register your place and view the full event agenda please visit abta.com/abtaevents.
