ABTA’s data event offers expert advice on upcoming changes to data management and protection for travel businesses

ABTA’s one day event ‘Data Management and Protection in Travel’ returns, taking place on 19 April at America Square Conference Centre in central London. This practical training will provide a deep-dive into the regulations surrounding data protection.

The day will be moderated by Simon Blanchard, a Partner at Data Protection Network (DPN) Associates who has extensive experience in advising large and medium multinational organisations on data compliance. The event will feature presentations from DMH Stallard, Flight Centre Travel Group and ABTA and attendees can expect a refresher on the essential areas of data management and protection, including:

  • An essential update on the regulations affecting data protection.
  • What’s next for data protection; EU retained laws, GDPR and EU e-privacy.
  • Practical workshops; working through a mock data breach, and reacting to a subject information request.
  • The challenges and processes when managing data in the travel industry.
  • Case study: building and maintaining a travel centric data protection function.

Travel businesses hold large amounts of personal and special category data. Debbie Venn, Partner, DMH Stallard will provide expert advice on the storage, processing and use of special category data, helping attendees ensure they are lawfully and effectively managing the personal data held by their businesses.

Travel also relies on smooth cross border data transfer. Delegates will hear from Debbie Venn, and Simon Blanchard on the regulations and challenges facing the industry, including essential updates on EU retained laws, ICO requirements, Data Transfer Agreements and more.

Finally, the day will be concluded with a panel discussion, looking at the future for data management and protection. Expert speakers will provide insights into the upcoming changes to regulation, what to expect in 2023 and beyond, and more!

ABTA’s Data Management and Protection in Travel training will take place on 19 April 2023 at American Square Conference Centre, bringing together data protection professionals for a day of focused sessions, practical workshops and insights into the key issues impacting data protection in 2023.
