ABTA to hold new virtual Travel VAT Training in May

In response to the upcoming changes to travel VAT post-Brexit, ABTA’s new training course has been designed to provide practical and comprehensive advice for tour operators of all sizes on the changes to the Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS), likely transition issues, and how the changes will affect travel businesses going forward. The event will take place virtually on Wednesday 5 May.

ABTA is pleased to announce that the training will be led by ABTA Partners and VAT specialists David Bennett (Elman Wall Bennett) and Sue Rathmell (MacIntyre Hudson). David Bennett is a VAT consultant specialising in travel and advises a broad range of tour operators and travel agents on the implications of TOMS and other VAT matters. Sue Rathmell is a VAT specialist with more than 25 years’ experience helping tour operators understand TOMS.

The one day event will start with a recap on how VAT currently applies to travel and an update on the new Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS), followed by guidance around transition issues that may arise. Attendees will take part in two practical and interactive exercises throughout the day which will focus on moving to the new TOMS and exploring how VAT might work in other member states.

Afternoon sessions will focus on the EU VAT reform and Member’s position in the EU as a UK tour operator. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion throughout the training.
