ABTA Elections 2021 

Nominations are now open for election to the Board of Directors and the Council of Regions, to take effect from the AGM on 17 November 2021. The deadline for nominations is 17:00 on Wednesday, 20 October 2021.
Board of Directors

Nominations are now invited for election of two Directors who will take office at the AGM on 17 November 2021 and will serve until the AGM in 2023 term:

  • One Director from, and elected by, ABTA Retailers with annual turnover of less than £20M
  • One Director from, and elected by, ABTA Principals with annual turnover of less than £50M.

Council of Regions

Nominations are also invited for the vacancies on the Council of Regions who will serve a two-year term. Any Member may stand for election to the Council of Regions providing he or she is engaged in the travel business to a significant degree within the region for which they are standing.

There is one vacancy in each of the following Regions:

  • Eastern
  • Northern Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Southern
  • South Wales
  • Yorkshire & North Midlands

The elected Member will automatically become either the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the Region they represent, depending on their/the Regional Committee’s wishes. The elected Member is therefore expected to play an active role in that Region.

Who is eligible to stand?

Candidates for election must be a proprietor, a partner or employee of a firm or a director or employee of a corporation which is an ABTA Member or an associated company of the ABTA Member.

Current Board and Council of Regions members may, if eligible, seek re-election. A Member of ABTA can put forward only one representative for election. That representative may, however, stand for election to the Board, or to the Council of Regions, or both.

For the purpose of the elections, a Member's turnover is that declared with their most recent audited accounts lodged with ABTA.

Who may nominate?

Nominations to fill the vacancies must be made by the candidate's own employer, i.e. the proprietor of a sole trader, the partner of a partnership, the company secretary or director of a limited company.

Proposal forms can be found at the end of this page. Candidates are also required to submit a curriculum vitae, including an election statement of not more than 200 words, on the form provided (at the end of this page), and a photograph (head and shoulders) of themselves.

Deadline for nominations

All nomination papers must reach the Secretariat by 17.00 hours on Wednesday, 15 September 2021. In the event that there is a ballot, those persons in the appropriate turnover band and/or Region would be invited to vote. Ballot papers would be sent out in September.
