Naxos is great for solo travellers as it has a lovely, chilled vibe which means you can really explore at your own pace.
Aside from being quite quiet, it’s also one of the least visited Greek Islands so you’ll get a local experience during a visit here.
So what can you get up to in Naxos? Aside from walking the stunning beaches like Plaka, Agios Prokopios and Aliko, you can stroll around Chora, the main town. Chora is the capital of Naxos and shows off the true charm of the island. Expect whitewashed houses, quaint chapels, cobbled alleys and the old citadel which has an atmosphere of its own.
The citadel is filled with lively restaurants, tavernas, cafes, bars and boutiques. If you’re hoping to find like-minded solo travellers, you’re likely to find them here!
You might have guessed Santorini would be the best Greek Island for couples and that’s probably because it’s made a name for itself over the years. Santorini caters for romantic couples breaks, full of charming boutique hotels with refreshing swimming pools, flaunting gorgeous panoramic views of the island.
Santorini is known for its breathtaking sunsets, especially in Oia and Imerovigli. But for a unique sunset experience, book a sunset cruise around the caldera. If you’re feeling adventurous, you might prefer to paddle your own kayak past the famous red sand (and white sand) beaches and explore the caldera that way.
Corfu is not only stunning in its natural beauty, but its towns too. Known for its Venetian towns, Corfu shows off Greek authenticity in its culture, food and local lifestyle.
The thing parents will love to hear is that Corfu is also great for family holidays in the sun. The island has plenty to keep the little ones entertained, and you won’t get bored either.
You could explore Corfu Town, the island’s capital which has an old fortress near the sea, as well as the Achielleion Palace outside of Corfu Town which has an impressive Imperial Garden and amazing sea views. Casa Parlante is also worth a visit with the kids, a history museum which recreates Corfu’s past through animated figures using robotic technology.
Time to sit back and enjoy life? Spend some time in Kefalonia, part of Greece’s Ionian Islands, Kefalonia is best-known for its terrific sandy beaches. And we’re talking incredible beaches! Think long coastline, crystal-clear waters and hilly landscape serving as the perfect postcard-ready backdrop.
Myrtos Beach is perhaps the most popular beach on Kefalonia as it’s consistently voted as one of the best beaches in the world!
Aside from the beaches, Kefalonia is one of Greece’s quieter islands, so it’s perfect for someone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and just relax.
When in doubt, Crete is always a good shout. This Greek Island has a fantastic range of things to do and is just great for all types of travellers, whether you’re solo, a couple, family or group.
For history buffs it’s got history and culture by the bucketloads – make sure to visit Knossos Palace which is a Bronze Age archaeological site. For beach lovers, there’s tons of beaches. Perhaps the most unique is Elafonissi Beach which boasts pink sand!
Finally, if you love to taste the local cuisine, don’t miss a visit to the Old Venetian Port of Chania. Here, you’ll find a bunch of tavernas and restaurants serving up local delights with a side of beautiful views.
