Advice for customers about Rhodes wildfires
Last updated - 1 August at 18:45
The operational state of emergency that was in place on the island of Rhodes due to the recent wildfires has now been lifted. Large parts of Rhodes remain unaffected by the wildfires and life is returning to normal for the few areas that were affected.
Customers who were initially evacuated have now left the evacuation centres either to be returned to their original hotels, given alternative accommodation or repatriated.
All customers on holiday in the region should be able to continue their holidays but are advised to monitor news reports and follow any advice or instructions issued by the local authorities, their travel company or their accommodation providers.

Your rights if your holiday has been cut short
If you travelled on a package holiday to Rhodes and it has been cut short due to the wildfires, you may be entitled to a partial refund. The amount you receive will depend on a number of factors, for example what services were included in the package and how much of your holiday you were able to take.
If you are due to travel to Rhodes today or the coming days
Anyone due to travel imminently to the areas affected should wait to hear from their travel company, and monitor the information being communicated by their travel company about the wildfires.
There have been some cancellations by some companies for trips with immediate departures.
Customers’ rights in these circumstances will vary depending on if they have booked a package holiday or if they have booked the elements of their trip independently.
If your holiday has been cancelled, ABTA members will discuss your options with you, which could be the offer of an alternative holiday or a refund for the cost of the package holiday.
If you booked your holiday arrangements separately and your flight has been cancelled, you should be entitled to a refund for your flight. You will then need to look at the terms of the conditions for your other bookings such as accommodation and transport. You may also want to look at your travel insurance policy.
