ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) and FCO Travel Advice e-learning tools

Recent events such as the tragic terrorism incident that occurred in Nairobi, Kenya, serve as a reminder that being prepared for and knowing what to do should an incident occur is essential.

In addition, customers who have already booked and those thinking about booking a trip will often ask travel staff whether is it safe to travel to a particular destination or area. This can be a tricky conversation, as everyone has his or her own perception of what is safe.

ABTA has some useful eLearning tools for Members and their staff to assist within these critical areas.

ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) e-learning tool

The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NACTSO) works closely with ABTA to share information, training and advice to the travel industry on measures that can be taken to understand and mitigate against terrorist threats both in the UK and overseas. As part of this ongoing work NACTSO have an e-learning training tool called ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) which is designed to help people understand what to look out for and how to behave in the unlikely event of a terrorism incident.

FCO Travel Advice e-learning tool

Signposting potential customers to the FCO travel advice before they book is critical and part of the ABTA code.   The ABTA communicating FCO travel advice e-learning tool provides useful information and insight on how to signpost customers to the travel advice and how to have answer those questions, so that customers can make their own informed decisions.

These training tools are available to ABTA Members through the ABTA Knowledge Zone and we would ask Members to encourage their staff to undertake these invaluable training courses.

The e-learning is available here: Click on “Start training” to access the applicable e-learning course.
