ABTA's upcoming Travel Regulations Conference will be moderated by ABTA’s Director of Legal Affairs, Simon Bunce and held at ABTA Partner, Mishcon de Reya’s impressive offices in central London on 30 November 2021.

The day will be split into three sections, looking at the major regulations affecting the industry, the impact they have had on business models and practical solutions going forward.

The first section of the day will examine the Package Travel Regulations, with David Marshall, from BEIS’ Consumer and Competition Team giving an opening regulatory update. Other speakers, including Travlaw, the Association of British Insurers and 1 Chancery Lane, will cover topics spanning the impacts of FCDO and other advice on the PTRs, supplier risk management, refunds, chargebacks, changes to the insurance industry, and recent case law including X vs Kuoni and TUI vs Griffiths. 

A fantastic lineup of industry speakers will then share their journeys over the past 18+ months and their learnings and strategies for the future. Speakers include:

• Rich Simpson, Head of Governance – Travel, The Midcounties Co-operative
• Ruth Marshall, Vice President International Legal Counsel, RCL Cruises
• Steve Heapy, Chief Executive Officer, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.

The second section of the day will see Neil Baylis, Partner at Mishcon de Reya, update on the current advertising guidance for the package travel sector. He’ll explore recent CMA activity and what changes lie ahead, including the future of CMA powers.

The final section will focus on ATOL regulations and financial protection. Ahead of the ATOL reform, hear updates and guidance from Farina Azam, Partner at Deloitte Legal and Martin Alcock, Director at Travel Trade Consultancy. Listen to an interactive panel session with ABTA’s Director of Membership and Financial Protection, Rachel Jordan, Flight Centre, t&g, Deloitte Legal and TTC, who will be discussing what the future of financial protection could look like for travel businesses. The conference will be a hybrid event, giving delegates the choice to attend in-person or watch virtually, through a custom platform. Both audiences will be able to submit questions live to our expert speakers.
