Wildfires in northern California

ABTA is monitoring the wildfires currently affecting several counties of northern California. The worst hit areas are in the wine country of Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties, where a state of emergency has been declared. Evacuation orders are in place in several areas and emergency shelters have been opened. Some infrastructure has been damaged, including phone communications and internet access.

Holidaymakers in the region should follow the advice of the local authorities, stay in touch with their travel provider and monitor local media reports, as well as checking the Foreign Office travel advice for the USA.  People on package holidays with imminent plans to travel to the affected areas of California will be contacted by their travel providers in the event that it is necessary to amend their holiday arrangements. Independent travellers are advised to check with their airlines and accommodation providers.
