13 Aug 2026 Supporting ABTA members to make the most of apprenticeships As businesses across travel continue to face skills and recruitment challenges, apprenticeships can play an increasingly important role in building a strong workforce for the future. They provide a practical route into the industry for new talent, while helping employers develop the skills their businesses need to thrive.Recent changes to apprenticeship funding have created new opportunities for employers, particularly those looking to recruit younger talent. Government announcements in July were positive and included a new £2,000 hiring incentive for eligible employers recruiting apprentices aged under 25 – due to launch in October. However, the apprenticeship funding landscape is still complex, and many businesses are unsure what support is available or how they can benefit. That's why ABTA is working with AS Training for the next 12 months.Through this collaboration we'll help members better understand apprenticeships, stay up to date with funding developments and explore how apprenticeship programmes can support their recruitment and workforce development plans.Over the coming year, ABTA and AS Training will deliver a programme of webinars and online drop-in sessions for members. These sessions will provide practical guidance on apprenticeships, funding opportunities and the support available to employers. Our first webinar will take place on 15 September, offering a timely opportunity to learn more ahead of the launch of the new employer incentive scheme in October. Alongside expert guidance from AS Training, we’ll hear directly from an ABTA member successfully employing apprentices, as well as an apprentice who can share their own experience of developing a career in travel.Find out more by joining our first apprenticeship webinar on 15 September.
