Statement on Alpe d'Huez coach incident

ABTA understands that a coach travelling from the ski resort of Alpe d’Huez in France, carrying 51 passengers who had been working a ski season in resorts across the Alps for tour operator Skibound, was involved in an incident at 13.45 (local time) this afternoon 16/4/13. Also on board the coach were two drivers from the coach company. The incident occurred about 65 kilometres outside Grenoble.

One person has been taken by air ambulance to the local hospital, all other passengers are accounted for and are being treated in local hospitals or have been evacuated to a village close by.

Earlier reports that a party of school children on holiday were involved are inaccurate.
