Protecting the ABTA brand and the value of your membership

The ABTA brand is an important sign of quality, expertise and reassurance for customers when booking travel arrangements. Our research shows just how important this is, with 75% of people saying they trust only companies that are members of ABTA.

The brand is something that our members have exclusive use of, and is a valuable way to demonstrate the standards that come with being part of ABTA. Protecting that exclusivity is important to both members and their customers.

Unfortunately, while cases of misuse are relatively rare, we do come across businesses that falsely claim ABTA membership, with some also displaying the logo without permission. The ABTA Brand Protection team are there to address these issues. Its work is behind the scenes, but it plays a vital role in protecting the ABTA brand. If misuse is identified, the team will act on it. Details of the businesses that have falsely claimed ABTA membership are also displayed on our website so that consumers can easily access this information if needed.

Please make sure that any trading names or websites connected to your business are correctly up to date and registered with ABTA. This means that customers are then able to use the ABTA member search on our website to check and verify that they are booking with a current member.

Protecting the ABTA brand is an important part of our wider work to support members and help customers book with confidence. To help combat misuse of the brand we work closely with a range of organisations, including the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), IATA, Report Fraud, the National Trading Standards, Prevention of Fraud in Trade (PROFiT), and local Trading Standards Services, making sure only our members get the full benefit from the recognition and trust that comes with ABTA membership.
