The General Election

Theresa May’s surprise announcement this week means that once again, following last year’s EU Referendum and the General Election the year before, the nation will head to the polls. Although this is a General Election, it is likely that the main areas of debate over the next seven weeks will be around Brexit.

While the nation may remain divided on Brexit, we have set out clear priorities that we want politicians to address on behalf of the travel industry and UK travellers. The report we recently launched highlights these priorities, which include the ability to fly across Europe, visa-free travel between the UK and the EU, protecting valuable consumer rights and being able to post workers abroad. Whichever party wins on the 8th June we will need them to address these vital matters during the negotiations with the EU.

With only seven weeks until the country votes, we will act swiftly to engage with the campaigning parties and the potential candidates to ensure that they are clear on what needs to happen after the Election and that they value the importance of the travel and tourism industry to the future prosperity of the country.
