Gazetteers.com Rolls out Travelife Endorsement

Travel agents now have an extra tool to help customers make informed choices about their holidays as gazetteers.com flags properties which have achieved Travelife awards – a system which awards hotels and apartments as to how sustainable they are.

Nikki White, ABTA’s Head of Destinations & Sustainability said: “We are delighted that gazetteers.com - a key selling tool for agents - is now highlighting properties which have achieved Travelife awards. This is a great move forward to help consumers make sustainable choices. Travelife has become the international certification scheme of choice for the industry and helps the supply chain to understand how well they are managing their environmental impacts and how well they look after staff and local communities.”

Travel Weekly Group Product Manager Patrick Jolley added: “This is a really worthwhile addition to gazetteers.com which makes it simple to find sustainable accommodation for customers.”

gazetteers.com, the online sales and reference tool for travel professionals, which provides factual content, images and 13,000 unbiased property reviews in 1,000 resorts across 223 countries now displays properties which have achieved bronze, silver or gold Travelife Awards. Gazetteers.com.com has over 15,000 unique users which include those from multiples, miniples, independents, consortia, home workers and call centres in the UK and Eire and has 5 million page views per month.

The Travelife Sustainability System, is wholly owned by ABTA, the UK Travel Trade Association, and is a practical tool for hotels and apartments to monitor and manage their social and environmental impacts. The system provides properties with simple step by step on-line checklists and advice. It is based on European and International standards and supported by international tour operators as well as small independents, who also flag the properties in their brochures and websites, and as a result it is growing in popularity.

To date 15,000 properties have registered with Travelife, 1,500 have completed a full Travelife audit and well over 500 properties have been awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold.
