‘A Fair Tax on Flying’ wins at ‘Public Affairs News’ Awards

The ‘A Fair Tax on Flying’ campaign won ‘Private Sector Campaign of the Year’ at the ‘Public Affairs News’ Awards annual ceremony held in London last night.

ABTA is part of the ‘A Fair Tax on Flying’ campaign (an alliance of over 30 companies ranging from airlines, tour operators, destinations and travel trade associations).

Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive said: “This award is excellent recognition of the industry working together on the important issue of air tax. While we are all proud of this achievement there is still a lot of work to do to ensure the Government does not increase this punitive tax again.”

The ‘Fair Tax on Flying’ campaign calls on the Government to make UK aviation tax fairer. The campaign successfully resulted in the Chancellor of the Exchequer freezing Air Passenger Duty in April 2011. Further lobbying has continued as the Government is expected to make an announcement in November regarding potential increases in 2012.  For more information on the campaign see: www.facebook.com/afairtaxonflying

BioIndustry Association R&D tax credit campaign and The Durand Academy PLMR ‘Shine a Light on Opportunity’ campaign were also shortlisted for the award.
