Blog: Destination Health and Safety Management - an introduction

Customers consistently list safety and security as a priority in their decision making and expect that all of the aspects of their holiday, regardless of their choice of destination, are safe.

Often businesses want to do the right thing but don’t know where to start and need help demystifying what their responsibilities are in regard to the safety of customers overseas.  Following on from the February Crisis Management seminar, last week, ABTA held an Introduction to Destination Health and Safety as part of the Travel Essentials series. This one day event, sponsored by Plexus Law and Argent Health and Safety, provided delegates with an insight into this topic and helped breakdown the fears of getting it wrong.

Attendees were given the opportunity to hear from industry experts and ABTA speakers as well as gaining practical guidance in identifying destination health and safety risks. They also had the chance to share their experiences with and learn from other travel businesses on a number of different situations overseas.

Sessions included:

  • Knowing your legal responsibilities for customer health and safety.
  • Knowing how to get started
  • Developing a health and safety policy appropriate for your business.
  • Safety management systems – managing your safety risks.
  • What to do when things don’t go to plan.
  • A drinks reception after the seminar provided the perfect setting for delegates to meet the ABTA team and network with industry colleagues.

Attendees at the event provided excellent feedback with the whole day being very well received. ABTA will be holding further Health and Safety seminars. If you would like more information on these or would like to see what other events ABTA hosts please see our website here or email events@abta.co.uk where one of the team will happily provide you with more details.
