Being the industry’s voice

The Government’s announcement on which countries fall into each traffic light category and when international travel will restart is expected very soon. The announcement will come on the back of another week of speculation and predictions on where travel will reopen to and when. To cut through the noise, provide clarity and help people feel confident to book a holiday ABTA spokespeople have been giving interviews to broadcasters including Sky News, BBC News, ITV News and Channel 4 News, as well as Radio 4 and local and national radio stations.

There are still several unknowns when it comes to the restart of international travel, including the approach to the Foreign Office travel advice. This is an issue we have been raising through all our channels with Government and this week we sent a letter, jointly with Airlines UK, to the Foreign Office Minister, Nigel Adams, asking for clarity, as well as urging the reintroduction of the islands policy and a regional approach to advice for areas of large land mass.

We have also been raising the importance of reopening the US-UK aviation routes and wrote a joint letter to President Biden and Prime Minister Johnson alongside other industry leaders.

To help support consumer confidence around the return to international travel ABTA has published some new advice content to help customers get ready for travel, which can be found here. This will be updated as new information emerges and the Government gives clarity on specific measures.
