ABTA welcomes General Meeting Vote

At a General Meeting held in ABTA offices today, ABTA Members have voted to change the Articles of the Association to reinforce the duty that ABTA suppliers must honour payment collected on their behalf by retailers if the retailer fails financially. This change followed a number of instances earlier this year where customers were requested to pay again, following the failure of a retailer.

Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive said: “I am pleased to see that the Membership has re-affirmed its commitment to the principle of financial protection, and the obligations that ABTA members have to customers. In a fast changing commercial environment, it is important that customers continue to have confidence in booking with ABTA members.”

Two other proposals relating to the use of trading names of failed companies and increased scrutiny of all persons involved in past failures were also passed.
