ABTA to urge holidaymakers to "swim safe" this summer

Latest safety campaign supported by Royal Lifesaving Society UK

ABTA – The Travel Association is urging holidaymakers to “swim safe” this summer by launching a campaign which will include new research from YouGov about holiday swimming habits and provide tips on how to be water aware this summer.

The campaign is being launched (on Friday 11 July) in association with the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS) whose recent drowning prevention week highlighted the need for water safety campaigning. It will also be supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), whose Consular teams will distribute ABTA’s poster and tips across their international network.

ABTA has produced new assets for Members including downloadable posters targeting two of the most at risk groups: families with small children, and young people.  In addition ABTA has developed advice on its website abta.com and will be distributing tips across its social media channels throughout the summer.

Victoria Bacon, ABTA’s Head of Communications, said: "Swimming is an important part of so many people’s holidays, and as we head into peak summer season, we will be reminding holidaymakers to follow some straightforward tips to ensure they ‘swim safe’. We want ABTA Members to get on board with the campaign by sharing these safety tips with their staff and their customers.”
