ABTA to host webinar for members to find out more about ETIAS

ABTA is inviting members and Partners to a webinar to learn more about the European Travel Information Authorisation System (ETIAS) ahead of its planned launch later this year.

The webinar will give members an opportunity to hear directly from the EU authority responsible for implementing the scheme – Frontex – the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.

It will take place on Tuesday 10 March, 11.00– 12.00. Members and Partners can register in advance via the ABTA Member Zone

While there isn’t yet a date for when ETIAS will be introduced, ABTA says that with members booking travel for the end of 2026 and into 2027 it is important they become familiar with the new authorisation system and how it will work, as well as start to think about how to make customers aware that they will need one in advance of travel.

Speakers on the call will include Luke Petherbridge, ABTA’s Director of Public Affairs, and representatives from the ETIAS Central Unit within Frontex.

Luke Petherbridge, said:

“Currently all eyes are, quite rightly, on the EES rollout, however it is important to look ahead to the introduction of ETIAS – particularly as there is more for travel agents and tour operators to do in advance of the scheme coming in.

“Travellers will need to apply for an ETIAS in advance – and they must know to do it through the official website. There is a proliferation of fake websites offering an ETIAS so we’re keen to make sure people don’t get caught out by these sites.

“We’ve been working very closely with Frontex over the last few years in the build up to ETIAS launching, so we’re pleased to be able to host their experts, giving members a chance to hear directly from those responsible for the scheme.”
