ABTA announces new election to Board

Important opportunity to take a lead in industry affairs at pivotal time for travel

ABTA is inviting nominations for the election of a Director from Members with annual principal turnover of £50M or more. As a Member of the ABTA Board, the elected Director will be responsible for setting the direction of the Association, helping to shape ABTA’s response to key industry issues, and promoting the interests of all Members.

This post was previously held by Hugh Morgan of Cosmos Holidays Limited. After his resignation from Monarch Group at the end of October, Mr Morgan stepped down following nearly a decade on the ABTA board – having seen the Association through its merger with the Federation of Tour Operators, significant reorganisation and relocation, and the development of its policy agenda in Westminster and Brussels.

Mark Tanzer, CEO ABTA said: “The ABTA Board is a diverse group of industry leaders, who bring to the table current operating experience and an understanding of the trends that are changing the face of the travel industry. It is a particularly important time to join the Board as there are regulatory changes under way which will impact all Members, and large principals in particular. As the business of the large principal Members becomes increasingly international and cross-border, we shall look to the elected Director to help inform our policy and operating strategy.”

ABTA’s chairman Noel Josephides added: “We are looking for a strong Director to join the talented and dedicated team who sit on our Board.  The Association is entering a significant phase as it builds on its brand strength and consumer recognition, and as we enter the run up to the general election in Spring 2015. This is an important and exciting opportunity, at a pivotal time for our Association and our industry.”

Candidates should put forward their nomination papers to the ABTA Secretariat by 17.00 hours on Friday 5 December 2014. ABTA Members with annual principal turnover of £50M or more will then be invited to vote for their preferred candidate.  The ballot result will be announced on 8 January 2015. The new Director will then serve on the board from that date.

Code of Conduct Committee

ABTA is also seeking Members to join its Code of Conduct Committee. The Code is one of the features of ABTA most valued by consumers and Committee members play a crucial part in maintaining this robust and accountable system of self-regulation.  ABTA is looking for Members who have expertise and experience that would assist the work of the Committee.
