Updated advice on Sri Lanka

Following a series of bomb attacks in Sri Lanka on Sunday 21 April, the Foreign Office has changed its travel advice to Sri Lanka and now advises against all but essential travel. This does not apply to flights transiting Colombo airport, providing that passengers remain in the transit area of the airport.

Customers who are due to travel imminently to the island on package holidays will be offered options deferring their date of travel, transferring to another destination or a full refund.

Customers who have booked independently will need to discuss their options with their airline and accommodation provider.

Advice for customers who are in Sri Lanka

British travellers in the country are advised to follow the advice of the UK Foreign Office, Sri Lankan security authorities, your tour operator and your accommodation providers. Travellers are also advised to avoid large gatherings.

The Foreign Office is advising travellers in the country who have been directly affected by the attacks to contact the Embassy in Colombo: +94 11 5390639.

If you are in the UK and are concerned about family or friends who are caught up in the incidents in Sri Lanka, the Foreign Office is advising you call 020 7008 1500 for further information.
