This is your opportunity to contribute vital information which could affect the rules around Computerised Reservations Systems (CRS) for air ticket sales.

The European Commission has appointed an independent consultant to conduct a review on the CRS Code of Conduct (Regulation 80/2009), which has significant relevance to agents using GDS and other airline ticket distribution channels.

The Code aims to ensure market efficiency and the protection of consumer interests, but was last amended in 2009 and, due to the extensive changes in technology and introduction of new distribution channels, no longer reflects market conditions.

ABTA has been participating in the review through our discussions with ECTAA (The European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Associations) because it is important for all agents to have access to neutral and unbiased information on fares and ancillary services.  Members have seen significant changes in access to content on GDSs and, although NDC enabled distribution is being developed, Members report a lack of functionality, particularly in relation to post-booking services.

The consultant is using the survey to gather evidence from agents across Europe about their experience of using GDS and other distribution channels and the information provided will determine the consultant’s recommendations to the Commission.
