A collaborative response to the PTRs review

Yesterday we submitted our response to the Government’s consultation on the latest review of the Package Travel Regulations. This response was informed by the views of members, and I would like to thank those of you that contributed.

Our aim was to achieve the greatest possible member involvement. We did this through a member survey, meetings with FTO and PAG policy groups, a conference call and workshops with the Department for Business and Trade which allowed members to discuss issues directly with those who will be framing the new legislation.

Your input has been invaluable and has enabled us to prepare a robust and properly informed response, accurately reflecting the views of our members.

It’s not just in the UK where package travel rules are being looked at, the EU is also conducting a review of the Directive on Package Travel and has published initial proposals.

Although the UK is no longer a member of the EU, ABTA has members that sell travel services across Europe and any change to the Package Travel Directive, and other legislation, will affect their businesses. Since the UK left the EU, ABTA remains an affiliate member of ECTAA, the European travel trade association. ABTA’s Director of Legal Affairs, Simon Bunce, was in Brussels last week contributing to the formulation of ECTAA’s response to the proposals on behalf of members.
