Update on the change to Turkish visa entry requirements

Since the new e-visa application process for Turkish Visas was announced earlier this year, ABTA on behalf of its Members, has been negotiating with the Turkish authorities to seek an extension to the transition period for the Turkish e-visa process.

We are pleased to advise that today we have received official confirmation from the attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey that the transition period of the e-visa process has been extended until 31 December 2014.

This means that during the transition period from now until 31 December 2014, Turkish visas can be obtained both online (via www.evisa.gov.tr/en) and at the port of entry.

Visitors arriving in Turkey without an e-Visa will be able to obtain them via interactive kiosks located at Turkish airports until this deadline.

20 February 2014

Please note that after 10 April 2014, it will not be possible to get a visa on arrival in Turkey. Visitors arriving in Turkey after this date must obtain an e-visa online before travel.

The e-visa has increased to 20 USD per person but is a multiple entry visa valid for 180 days from the date of issue.

With regard to cruise passengers, the following rules apply:

  • Visitors don’t need an e-Visa if they don't leave the ship;
  • Visitors don’t need an e-Visa if they only tour in the respective port city of Turkey. (Visitors will be given a permission by local border police authorities to enter Turkey).

But:

  • Visitors will need a visa if they want to tour beyond the respective port city of Turkey.
