#MakeFlyingFair campaign

On Monday, A Fair Tax on Flying launched its latest campaign, calling for at least a 50% reduction of APD right across the UK.

Since it was introduced in 1994, APD has increased by over 824%, and economic analysis by PwC found that abolishing it would boost UK GDP by 1.7% and create 61,000 new jobs by 2020.

ABTA has worked hard in recent years, alongside A Fair Tax on Flying, to deliver significant reductions and reforms to APD, including the removal of the two highest bands of the tax, in 2014, and the abolition of the tax on child fares, achieved in two waves across 2015/6.

A Fair Tax on Flying, which is drumming up social media support for the campaign using #MakeFlyingFair, will urge consumers to email their MPs, and other elected representatives, asking for their support. The campaign’s call for a further cut in APD follows the recent commitment of the Scottish Government to halve the tax by 2018.

ABTA Members in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are invited to support the campaign, and to consider encouraging their customers to make contact with their own MPs. For more information, please visit the campaigns website www.afairtaxonflying.org. Separately, ABTA is also continuing to work with other industry stakeholders to ensure the SNP Government in Scotland delivers their commitment to a 50% reduction.
