Today ABTA releases new data which shows record levels of engagement with Members and consumers, indicating the extent to which the coronavirus pandemic has impacted the travel sector for individuals and for companies.
ABTA welcomes the Chancellor’s move today to extend and adapt the furlough scheme, but highlights other urgent measures which will be needed to protect the industry and the hundreds of thousands of jobs it supports.
ABTA is stepping up its ask to the Chancellor to extend the government’s salary support scheme for the UK travel industry, in recognition that travel companies will emerge from the current crisis much slower than other sectors of the UK economy.
ABTA’s Chief Executive, Mark Tanzer has written an open letter to customers of the Association’s Members with travel arrangements that have been affected by the coronavirus crisis to explain the current situation and ask for their support.
ABTA has published further guidance today for Members and customers on holiday amendments and refunds, as the industry continues to wait for the Government to provide clarity and support from its side.
