26 Feb 2026 It’s as important as ever to alert your customers to FCDO guidance We’re living in an era of considerable change – geopolitical events, new entry requirements at borders, and health and safety situations in destinations can all bring the potential for confusion and uncertainty among your customers.ABTA aims to help our members’ customers travel with confidence, for many reasons but not least that confident travellers are more likely to book a holiday. In fact, our research last year saw 77% of people say that ‘seeing government advice that a destination is safe to travel to’ is either essential or important to give them this confidence. So, it’s important to make sure your customers know to look out for and monitor Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) guidance for the destination they’re visiting. It helps them be aware of the situation on the ground in the place they’re going to and so build confidence before they travel. It’s also a requirement of ABTA’s Code of Conduct that members alert customers to the existence of FCDO advice before the contract stage. The guidance can be viewed here.If you or your teams want some advice on what to say, or would like some examples of how to discuss this area with your customers, we have a short and simple training module available for free for members in our Knowledge Zone. This step-by-step guide takes you through what the guidance is and gives ideas of how to best place this in customers’ minds.Mark Tanzer, Chief Executive
