Government extends and increases financial incentives to promote apprenticeships

Northern Training Academy contributed to the ABTA webinar on Managing Travel Workforces on 17 March. Part of the discussion focused on apprenticeships. People often think that apprenticeships are only for younger people or new staff. In fact, apprenticeships are available to a range of ages – 16 up to 65. There is a huge choice of specialist areas at a level to suit all employees – existing or new staff. It is a good way to develop new skills and fill skills gaps be that through a new hire, or to upskill existing staff. The Government has recently extended and increased apprenticeships incentives. From 1 April to end September 2021, there is a £3000 incentive to hire a new apprentice to the company (incentives available around £1500 for the rest of March 2021).  

In addition, there are traineeships available – these are an unpaid work experience opportunity for people aged 19-24. Trainees receive job ready skills, maths/English and digital skills training and specific occupational training according to the work placement requirements. The work experience element is offered by the organisation for a minimum of 70 hours – there is an incentive of £1000 per trainee for this (conditions apply so please ask Northern Training Academy for further details).
