I'm at the airport and my luggage has been lost. What should I do?

You should complete a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) at the airport as soon as you realise your luggage has been lost.

You should then write direct to the airline within 21 days if your luggage is lost.

We also suggest that you speak to your local representative so they can assist you while you wait for an update from the airline.

Top tip
If you've used more than one airline it would usually be the final airline that would handle the claim so contact them first.
You must contact the airline to make a claim:

  • within seven days for lost or stolen items, or damaged luggage
  • within 21 days for delayed luggage from when you receive your luggage.

You may be able to make a claim on your travel insurance, which may pay out more for the lost items than the airline, check with your insurance provider.
