Cherry blossoms bloom in Japan during spring, starting in the southern regions in March and moving towards the north through May. Places like Kyushu see the first blooms, while northern areas like Hokkaido experience them later. Some of the most popular viewing spots include Meguro River in Tokyo with its stunning riverside promenade or Hirosaki Castle featuring over 2,500 cherry trees and illuminated evening views. Visitors can experience hanami (flower viewing) by joining traditional activities like picnics, tea ceremonies, and cultural performances that celebrate this beloved natural phenomenon.
Every March, Texas is home to the annual international event South by South West, a popular conglomeration of parallel film, media and music conferences, bringing together emerging artists, music, independent films, tech, and culture. Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, the event offers a variety of activities combining film screenings, music performances, comedy shows, exhibitions, and industry networking events as well as conference sessions on topics like technology, film, culture, and music.
Every March, Valencia celebrates Las Fallas, a mix of art, music, culture and satire. The streets are filled with traditional music and dances, while continuous fireworks create an energetic atmosphere with participants of all ages. Over 400 local neighbourhood groups create their own large artistic structure called a ‘Falla’, which is burned on the festival's final day.
Every year, India celebrates Holi, a festival of the beginning of Spring and the triumph of good over evil. This Hindu festival, also known as the Festival of Colours, brings together people who celebrate by covering each other with coloured powders and also using water guns and balloons. Groups create a festive atmosphere with drums and music, singing and dancing through the streets. The day is also marked by visits between family and friends and sharing special Holi food and drink.
