ABTA’s one-day seminar will give you a comprehensive guide to VAT TOMS is and how it is calculated. The seminar will look at how Brexit may affect TOMS with the content being tailored to reflect the ongoing negotiations.

About the event

The Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS) is an EU wide simplification measure that protects tour operators from having to register for VAT in every member state in which they operate. If your business buys-in and re-sells travel, accommodation and certain other travel services as a principal to a consumer within the EU, then you have to use the TOMS to account for your VAT.

This event will give you an overall understanding of VAT in travel before looking in detail at TOMS itself where delegates will hear about the importance of TOMS and what the current legal issues regarding TOMS are.

Sessions

  • How does VAT apply to travel and the framework within which VAT is applied
  • What will the impact of Brexit be on TOMS
  • Agent/principal contracting with an introduction to the Med Hotels, Hotels4U and Opodo cases
  • The legal and practical implications of the Med Hotels case
  • How to calculate TOMS – practical exercises
  • ABTA’s work around VAT and the current issues ABTA is working on
