New Leaflet Showcasing How ABTA Can Help Customers

Date published: 31 January 2008

ABTA has produced 1 million new consumer leaflets outlining the benefits of booking a holiday with an ABTA member. Holidaymakers will be given these leaflets so they are aware of the exceptional services on offer when you choose to book through an ABTA travel agent or tour operator.

ABTA members offer a worry-free holiday as you can financially protect your travel arrangements against a travel company going out of business and take advantage of a far-reaching, well-policed code of conduct, which ensures high standards above and beyond legal requirements. If things go wrong you will also benefit from a low cost, fast dispute resolution scheme. They can also offer ABTASure travel insurance - a competitively priced travel insurance policy that covers travellers up to the age of 85 as well as giving excellent general cover.

The Reduce My Footprint carbon reduction initiative is another great service ABTA members can offer allowing you both to travel and minimise the impact you are having on the health of the planet.

ABTA members can also offer families an online safety deposit box, FamilySafe Holidays for all their vital holiday information which offers essential help and reassurance if the worse were to happen and you were to have an emergency whilst away.

With over 8 million of us experiencing some form of disability ABTA offers sensible tips both to you and its members to help make travel accessible to all.

Notes to editors

ABTA was founded in 1950 and currently has over 1,500 members with 6,000 outlets. Members include travel agents, tour operators and support services right across the spectrum from small family-owned businesses to the largest tour operators.

ABTA is the largest travel association in the UK and its members provide 90% of the foreign package holidays in the UK as well as selling millions of independent travel arrangements.

As part of its comprehensive package of services to members, ABTA, as a non-party political organisation, also provides an effective voice to represent the interests of its Members to government and key opinion formers at the highest levels. In the UK, these include, government ministers, constituency MPs, Select Committee members, senior civil servants and members of the political opposition parties in both Westminster and the devolved administrations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

In Europe, ABTA is forming close ties with members of the European Parliament, the European Commission and staff within the Director Generals' Secretariats. ABTA works in partnership with ECTAA (the European grouping of travel agents and tour operators' associations) to lobby on interests relevant to its Members.
