RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL

Wherever we go on holiday, however we get there, and whatever we do once there, our activities have social, environmental and economic impacts. These impacts are diverse and have the potential to be good as well as bad.

Travelife

The Travelife Sustainability System is an ABTA owned scheme which recognises the environmental and social improvements made by hotels and other types of accommodation. Those that perform well are rewarded with Bronze, Silver, or Gold Travelife Awards.  For a list of businesses that have signed up to the scheme and committed to a programme of continual sustainable development, see our directory of sustainable businesses Travelife Collection.  You can find out more by watching our Travelife video

Reduce My Footprint

Reduce My Footprint is the travel industry climate programme, designed to mitigate the effects of travel on climate change. It provides you with a way to understand the impacts we all have, and to calculate the emissions created by your travel plans. You can contribute toward offsetting these carbon emissions through a variety of projects.

The Travel Foundation

The UK’s first responsible tourism charity, the Travel Foundation supports environmental and community programmes designed to help local businesses to work with the travel industry. A number of ABTA tour operators have introduced schemes to raise funds for projects from the sale of holidays.
