PRICE ADVERTISING
In February 2007 the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) announced that companies must ensure that their basic advertised prices include all relevant non-optional charges. A three month period was given for compliance to be achieved, following which enforcement action would be taken. In May 2007 the OFT required undertakings from 12 airlines that their advertising would be compliant by 31 July 2007. Although progress has been made, some airlines were still not showing inclusive prices at the start of 2008 and the OFT was continuing to review the situation. The OFT in turn expected ABTA to control the advertising of its Members, through enforcement of the Code of Conduct.
ABTA’s Position
ABTA issued guidance to Members in February 2007 about price indications and indicated how complaints could be investigated under the Code of Conduct. ABTA continues to monitor Members’ advertising, websites and travel agent feeds.
