INSURANCE EXCLUSION
On 26 June 2007, the Treasury announced that, effective 1 January 2009, all travel insurance policies sold in the UK must be through Financial Services Authority (FSA) regulated companies. The FSA advised it would implement this change in a proportionate manner, minimising the burden on travel firms. A further consultation document was issued by the FSA in December 2007.
ABTA’s Position
ABTA has responded to the Treasury’s consultations and will continue to work closely with the Treasury and the FSA to ensure that any regulation is proportionate to the potential risk for customers and that the mechanics of the new regime allow as many Members as possible to continue selling insurance.
