ABTA'S STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO LOBBYING

ABTA is increasing its efforts to highlight our sector to Parliamentarians and to the Government. As part of this lobbying effort we're asking for your help to lobby your local MP on some of these issues.

Why not write to your local MPs to invite them to visit your workplace? Newly elected MPs will be looking for opportunities to engage with their constituency in the initial months of this new government and to engage in this way is a good opportunity for you to bring up the issues that are most important to you, with someone who will decide on the future of our sector in Parliament.

Guide

1. Find your MP:

Your local MP can be found on http://findyourmp.parliament.uk

2. Using the template letter below, write or email your MP asking them to visit your workplace and speak to staff. Remember to tell them how many people work in your office and that you will be writing to the local media about their visit.

3. Read the ABTA Manifesto below to make sure that you know what the key policy areas are to speak to the MP about.

4. When the MP’s office does get in touch, please book a time in for their visit(s) and let Lisa Glasspool (020 3117 0586) at ABTA know so we can keep in contact with these people.

5.  Complete the example press release below and send it to your local media. ABTA’s media team can help with any questions and their contact details are on the press release template.

6. Welcome your MP to your workplace, give them a tour and invite them to meet staff. At this point ask them for their view on the points in the ABTA manifesto and ask them to support it.

There is a travel agent or tour operator in every constituency in the country and if only a small number of agents and operators get involved with this initiative it will make a big difference to the success of ABTA’s lobbying work in the new Parliament.

Thank you.
